Dear Anna Birna—

Once again, I am like a snail in sending an official thank you, even by email—I do apologize!  I want you and your staff to know just how very much my students enjoyed the visit we made to Soltun this past spring, and how much they learned from it.  Many of them listed it as one of the highlights of the “Iceland Trip” and all of them were in awe.  Your excellent presentation provided an excellent introduction to both the philosophy and technical aspects of Soltun.  More than one student noted in their journals and discussions the recognition of the connection between staff and resident satisfaction as well as the definite nursing influence on the planning and running of Soltun. On the tours, all student said they felt very welcome.  They were impressed not only with the physical aspects, but also with the dignity and caring they observed toward the residents.  One student, comparing the care he saw at Soltun with that his grandparents received in the US, said he was moved to tears to know what is possible.

On a personal note, I always feel welcome when I visit, and it is wonderful to see you and your staff.  Please convey my greetings to them, and let them know they are always welcome over here in New York.

Thanks again for a wonderful visit—I hope you will consider letting me come with another group in the future.

With warm regards from NYC—David

PS—will you be at the ENDA conference in October?  I have had two abstracts accepted for presentations and my Dean will be one of the keynote speakers.  Hope to see you then!  DNE
